Plaza Quince Martires in the downtown area of Naga city stands a monument honoring the 15 brave men who fought against the Spanish regime in the 1896 revolution. During my Elementary Days, this monument is one of the popular sites being visited in Naga Area as part of our Educational Field Trip. I remember that our Teacher before made us familiarize the names of this brave heroes and I still remember them, They are: 11 EXECUTED: Fr. Gabriel Prieto, from Magarao, Camarines Sur, Tomas Prieto, from Naga, Fr. Severino Diaz, from Bulan, Sorsogon, Manuel P. Abella, from Catanauan, Tayabas, Fr. Inocencio Herrera, from Pateros, Rizal, Domingo I. Abella, son of Manuel Abella, Camilo Jacob, from Polangui, Albay, Florencio Lerma, from Quiapo, Manila, Macario Valentin, from Naga, Cornelio Mercado, from Atimonan, Tayabas, and Mariano Melgarejo, from Santa Cruz, Manila. DIED IN JAIL: Leon Hernandez from Libmanan, Camarines Sur, Ramon Abella ,Mariano Ordenanza, from Naga and Mariano Arana, from Magarao, Camarines Sur.
