From native sea dweller, later came Visayan Migrants (Kedatuan of Dapitan-Panglao Island, then came Spaniards in 16th Century and turned the higaunon (animist) village into one of the earliest Christian settlements in the country. The Spaniards abandoned Iligan in 1899, paving way for the landing of the American forces in 1900. From Spanish Era to American Era, to it’s freedom and Cityhood.

Today, Iligan City was once declared 3rd richest City in Visayas and Mindanao because of Maria Cristina Falls (Total height: 98 m) the 2nd highest waterfall in Philippines, source of hydroelectricity by the power plant.
