Cathedra – the raised throne of a bishop in early Christian Basilica, also called the bishop’s throne.

A Cathedra can be found inside the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral – the ecclesiastical seat of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Cebu.

The Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral  was one of the first churches in the Philippines (besides the Basilica del Santo Niño) dedicated to St. Vitalis and built near the fort in April 1565 by Miguel Lopez de Legazpi, Fray Andrés de Urdaneta and Fray Diego de Herrera.

This year on March, the Philippines will be celebrating the 500 years of Christianity and Cebu with a culture and history deeply rooted in Christian traditions will be one of the premier site of the said celebration.
