Bataan is a province located on the island of Luzon in the Philippines, within the Central Luzon region. It is bordered by Zambales to the west, Pampanga to the north, and Manila Bay to the south. With an area of about 1,372 square kilometers, the province has significant historical, cultural, and natural attractions. One of the most important events in Bataan’s history is the Bataan Death March, which occurred in April 1942 after the Battle of Bataan during World War II. Around 75,000 Filipino and American soldiers were forced to march to a prison camp, and thousands perished due to brutal conditions. To commemorate this, Mount Samat hosts the Dambana ng Kagitingan (Shrine of Valor), a national shrine and symbol of the soldiers’ bravery. Aside from its historical significance, Bataan is also known for its natural beauty.
