Military commander of Huks. Of peasant origin, born in 1913, joined Socialist party; was anti-Japanese guerrilla leader during World War II. Elected to legislature in 1946 but disbarred, led rebellion against government. Surrendered in 1954 to Ninoy Aquino, sentenced to life term by President Magsaysay, later released by Marcos.
