Discovering the Beauty of Tamaraw Falls in Puerto Galera

Tamaraw Falls

Tamaraw Falls is one of Puerto Galera’s most popular attractions. This majestic natural wonder stands at a height of 423 feet (128.3 meters), making it comparable to a tall building. Its unique Y-shape is formed by twin falls merging together, creating a strong and wild flow of water that is truly a fascinating sight to behold.

A Tribute to the Tamaraw

The falls were named after the tamaraw, Mindoro’s most well-known animal. The tamaraw is a dwarf buffalo found only in the Philippines. Once abundant in Mindoro, this species is now endangered. Naming the falls after the tamaraw helps raise awareness about this rare animal and promotes efforts to preserve it.

Exploring Tamaraw Falls

On our countryside tour, Tamaraw Falls was the first stop. As we approached, the sound of splashing water grew louder, building our excitement. A large welcome sign carved into a stone near the falls greeted us, highlighting its popularity among tourists. We hired a tricycle service to visit Tamaraw Falls and the nearby Virgin Island.

Since the falls are located right by the roadside, viewing them is free. However, there is a small fee if you want to enter the mini-resort for a closer look and more activities. The fee breakdown is listed at the end of this post.

A Closer Look at Tamaraw Falls

We decided to enter the mini-resort to get a better view of Tamaraw Falls. Inside, we first saw a swimming pool and several cottages where guests can relax. The water in the pool was very cold, perfect for a refreshing dip. Unfortunately, we didn’t bring our swimming clothes, so we couldn’t swim this time.

As we looked further down, we saw another swimming pool. Swimming in this second pool offers a thrilling high view of the surroundings. It’s a great place to immerse in nature, surrounded by lush green trees and plants. The strong flow of water from the first pool to the second creates a natural shower and back massage experience.

The Full Height of Tamaraw Falls

You may wonder about the 423-foot height, as it seems to be as tall as a five-story building. The portion visible from the roadside bridge is just a small part of its full height. The real length of the falls can be seen from different angles, showing its true grandeur.
