Albay!… the place where the active stratovolcanic Mount Mayon is located. Legend has it that Mayon Volcano is the resting place where the spirits of the Lovers Magayon and Pangaronon leaves. Folks also believe that when Mount Mayon is about to erupt, it is being vexed by Pagtuga, he is the persona in the folk story that caused the tragic death of Magayon and Pangaronon.
Aside from being one of the world’s renowned “Perfect Cone” and active volcano, Mount Mayon is also declared as a UNESCO Site. The volcano is visible and shared by eight (8) Cities/municipalities. Santo Domingo, Daraga, Camalig, Legapzi, Guinobatan, Ligao, Malilipot and Tobaco.
Bicolanos are also famous for their HOT delicacies. To name a few, there’s the bicol express, the pinangat, and the chili ice cream. Local handmade abacca accessories are abundant along the markets as well. When visiting, consider the month of May for Magayon Festival, Feast of Our Lady of Peñafrancia and August for the Ibalon festival.
